Watergardens Town Centre TAYLORS LAKES, VICTORIA
A $150 M development by QIC Global Real Estate at Watergardens Town Centre maximises the opportunities created by the Melbourne 2030 Growth Strategy. It has created a synergistic relationship between the existing centre (also designed by The Buchan Group), public transport, main road links, natural features such as the Taylors Creek linear park and new retail, entertainment, leisure and civic uses, to deliver a town centre that will set the benchmark for Australian urban development.
Central to the design is a new mall, anchored by Safeway and Big W, with 100 new specialty retailers creating an enhanced fashion, lifestyle and fresh food. The mall links to the existing centre at the new food court, which has been expanded from 350 to about 600 seats. A major feature of the design is a dramatic glazed atrium that extends over Taylors Creek, linking the existing Centre and the foodcourt to the sunlit new mall. The creek has been enhanced with boardwalks, a water feature and extensive native landscaping. A vibrant Town Square has been included in the development and the new $5M, Council-owned Sydenham Library is also part of the project. Environmental graphics designed by The Buchan Group are a significant element of the new development and have also been used to re-brand existing entries.
The development opened in April 2007.
